MSI has also renewed its exclusive notebook computer models with the new Intel Kaby Lake processor and NVIDIA 10 series graphics cards, reminiscent of the Titan Pro model that recently attracted attention with its 4K option.
Dominator Pro is on the shelf with the GT72VR 7RE model name. The previous model, GT62VR 6RE Dominator Pro was also on the shelves in the name. The main difference between the two laptops is, of course, the CPU, but another important feature is the use of a 120 Hz panel in the new model. Of course there are also minor differences in design. GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro is one of MSI’s muscular laptops. The back of the laptop comes with a brushed surface. However, compared to the predecessor model, the double-line LEDs located on the back are removed and the same area embossed. The red dragon logo, of course, continues to be in the back.
The MSI, which also extends the screen compared to its predecessor model, features a 17.3-inch screen in the new model. While the screen frame is covered with matt plastic material a little thicker, the bottom part of the laptop is provided with a plain appearance with a black background.
There is no doubt that the keyboard is a big deal for players. You know that there are mechanical keypads in different models of the company. In this model, although not mechanical, MSI offers a set of experience that is close to use, as we are familiar with other models, we also present the SteelSeries keypad here. The SteelSeries has the following aspect: You can paint the entire keypad as you wish by using the SteelSeries Engine 3 software on your computer. As you can colour individual keys, it is also possible to assign partitions. It also does not stay with it, you can also interfere with the touchpad.
MSI has also developed a phone application to diversify this usage. You can also find customizations through the application you can find with the LED Wizard for iOS and Android. On the left side of the keyboard is a series of buttons. While one of these is a power button, you can adjust the level of the keyboard backlight with another, and you can run the laptop’s Cooler Boost 4 fans. Yes, with the Cooler Boost 4 fans we mentioned in our previous review, MSI offers a powerful spin speed and gives you one-touch control of the cooling system. Yes, it is clear that fans are working audibly; But we know that the players do not care much about the high performance. On the left side of the keyboard is a series of buttons. While one of these is a power button, you can adjust the level of the keyboard backlight with another, and you can run the laptop’s Cooler Boost 4 fans.
If we go back to the keyboard, another important detail here is that the Windows key is not on the left side. Yes, this is the case with MSI’s previous models. The Windows key on the left side can be a problem for most of the players in the game. That’s why MSI got this key out of here. Now that we’ve said that, let’s look at the perimeter of the laptop computer.
Dominator Pro has rich environment connections. When we look at the left-hand side, we see audio outputs with 4 USB 3.0 ports. There is also a card reader here. On the right side, there are 2 USB 3.0 more. There is also an optical drive in the vicinity. When we turn the back of the laptop, we see the ventilation grille on both sides and the mini DisplayPort, USB 3.1 port, HDMI, Ethernet and power connections in the center. Meanwhile, DisplayPort is in the 1.2 standard and HDMI is in the 2.0 standard. So with this HDMI connection you can transmit a 60Hz image at 4K. In the meantime, with dual display output, together with 2 external monitors can provide a total of 3 to get the screen.
The bottom of Dominator Pro also contains important details. For good cooling, the bottom of the laptop is covered with hoops. Thus, hot air can be easily removed. Also in the corner, we see a subwoofer with Dynaudio log. As we have seen in previous models, Dominator Pro, a combination of Nahimic sound developer and Dynaudio speakers, can provide 7.1 sound support.
One of the most important features of the GT72VR 7RE Dominator Pro is the screen which provides 120 Hz image support as mentioned before. The 17.3-inch screen has TN panes. Thus, the screen can provide a lower response time compared to IPS panels, the game produces a good response time of 5ms response time.
The screen is in Full HD resolution. MSI also has 4K panel models. One of them was the Titan Pro we had reviewed before. This model is located just below it and comes with a Full HD display. With a resolution of 1920×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 120 Hz, the screen gives you a clear view of the 120 FPS video you receive in games.
The Core i7-7700HQ processor powered by the Kaby Lake platform is capable of running at 2.80 GHz base and 3.80 GHz ceiling frequencies with the processor introduced earlier this year. You can adjust this by MSI’s MSI SHIFT software. From this screen you can reach with FN + F7 combination, you can take the laptop in Turbo mode and apply overclocking on the easy way. Dominator Pro uses 32GB of DDR4-2400 MHz RAM. The laptop with 256 GB M.2 SATA SSD also owns 1 TB of storage capacity in 2.5-inch form factor. On the graphics side, we see the NVIDIA GeForce FTX 1070 with 8 GB capacity.
